Net-spinning caddis flies of the
family Hydropsychidae are widely distributed in fast and slow flowing stony
streams, and often dominate insect biomass on lowland rivers. They are
particularly abundant in tailwaters (rivers that originate in lakes).
Colours vary from green/grey to cream below and olive/tan above.
Antron yarn does a wonderful job of imitating the furry, segmentation of
these caterpillar-like creatures, becoming a few shades darker and naturally
translucent when wet.
This pattern imitates green/grey
net-spinning caddis larvae (Hydropsychidae); it becomes naturally
translucent and considerably darker when wet.
